Vegas Play of the Day: Army at Navy

The sixth season of the annual Play of the Day betting competition between the Sun's sports staff is now underway, effective July 1.

Bankrolls start at $10,000 for each of the four participants, with the objective to increase it as much as possible over the next year. The minimum daily wager is $300, with a $200 penalty assessed for failing to place a bet on an assigned day.

Past winners are Case Keefer in 2018-19 and 2017-2018, Ray Brewer in 2016-2017 and 2015-2016, and Taylor Bern in 2014-2015.

Army plus-10.5 at Navy: $990 to win $900

I've done it. This will complete a yearlong project of handicapping every college football game — at least for the regular season.

It's been a success, regardless of today's outcome, with the record standing at 394-318-18 — 60-56-4 on plays, 109-62-2 on leans and 235-200-12 on guesses — but let's go out with a bang. Let's make this a play.

Let's make it a play because it's too many points. All I've heard all week is people talking about how there are never any points scored in this game, which has led to action on the under with the total going from 43 to 40.5.

But if points are truly going to be that hard to find — and they might be — then there's just as much value on taking double-digits with the underdog. The Black Knights know the Midshipmen and their offense inside and out.

Navy isn't going to be catching Army off guard today, and much of their success has been from catching opponents off guard.

If anything, Navy has overachieved this year. Army has under-achieved. These teams are closer talent-wise than their records suggest — Navy enters 9-2 to Army's 5-7. Buy low on an underdog with a bite to end the regular season.

Current Standings: Grimala (10-5, $9,365), Keefer (19-17-2, $7,915), Emerson (11-14, $7,990), Brewer (8-9, $6,085)
