The sixth season of the annual Play of the Day betting competition between the Sun's sports staff is now underway, effective July 1.

Bankrolls start at $10,000 for each of the four participants, with the objective to increase it as much as possible over the next year. The minimum daily wager is $300, with a $200 penalty assessed for failing to place a bet on an assigned day.

Past winners are Case Keefer in 2018-19 and 2017-2018, Ray Brewer in 2016-2017 and 2015-2016, and Taylor Bern in 2014-2015.

Dallas Cowboys minus-6.5 vs. Buffalo Bills: $990 to win $900

In the modern NFL, a great offense is always going to be more valuable than a great defense. Wait a minute — is there even a great defense in this game?

Conventional wisdom would say Buffalo has a great defense, but I'm unconvinced. Sure, the Bills are third in the NFL in giving up only 4.8 yards per play and that consistency is the biggest reason they're sitting at 8-3 straight-up.

But they've also faced the NFL's easiest schedule so far. Their defense rates only 14th in the league by Football Outsiders' DVOA.

Buffalo has seen nothing like this Dallas offense that sits second in DVOA and first with 6.6 yards per play — yes, even ahead of Kansas City and Baltimore in second and third, respectively.

The Cowboys have gone 0-4 in games decided by less than a touchdown, making them undervalued and much better than their 6-5 straight-up record. The Bills are not near as strong as their record.

I feel like it's an annual Thanksgiving tradition for me to lose money on the Cowboys game, but not this year. I can't get away from this one.

Current Standings: Grimala (10-4, $10,305), Keefer (18-15-2, $8,995), Emerson (10-14, $7,890), Brewer (8-9, $7,535)
