Vegas Play of the Day: Stanford at Washington State

The sixth season of the annual Play of the Day betting competition between the Sun's sports staff is now under way, effective July 1.

Bankrolls start at $10,000 for each of the four participants, with the objective to increase it as much as possible over the next year. The minimum daily wager is $300, with a $200 penalty assessed for failing to place a bet on an assigned day.

Past winners are Case Keefer in 2018-19 and 2017-2018, Ray Brewer in 2016-2017 and 2015-2016, and Taylor Bern in 2014-2015.

Washington State plus-4 vs. Stanford, $990 to win $900: I’ve got Washington State winning this game outright, meaning there is a great value in getting four points at home with the Cougars. Stanford won the initial meeting of the season between the teams, but the game went back and forth until the Cardinal pulled away late.

Stanford has lost five of its last six games, with the only win coming Thursday at Washington. The victory against Washington, which just ended a nine-game losing streak and is the one of the worst scoring teams in the country, doesn’t carry much weight.

Washington State has a 12-4 record in home games, as the Beasley Coliseum has become one of the toughest venues to play at for the opposing team on the west coast. Neither team is great offensively, which means this game will feature slow and deliberate offense. That plays to the favor of the team getting the points.

Current Standings: Grimala (14-5, $8,865), Keefer (27-24-2, $8,835), Brewer (14-11, $7,995), Emerson (13-16, $5,950)
