North Las Vegas Police are searching for this suspect in a deadly home invasion in the 1200 block of West Alexander Road, near Martin Luther King Boulevard on Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2019.

An attempted home invasion at a North Las Vegas apartment this week turned deadly for a resident, according to city police.

North Las Vegas detectives are “working around the clock” to identify a gunman who fired at the victim during a struggle, although it wasn’t clear how the victim died, police said Saturday.

Officers responded about 9 a.m. Wednesday to a complex in the 1200 block of West Alexander Road, near Martin Luther King Boulevard to find the victim, 55, lying unconscious outside the apartment, police said. He died at the scene.

Citing a preliminary investigation, police said the victim’s wife responded to a knock on the door and saw a male suspect wielding a gun. That’s when the gunman “pushed” his way inside, and a struggle with the male victim ensued, police said.

The male resident was able to force the suspect outside, but then a second gunman appeared and shot at him, police said. It wasn’t immediately clear if the victim was hit by gunfire.

The second suspect, described as a large-build black man, fled in a silver Lexus sedan manufactured between 2007 and 2009, police said.

The gunman and his car were captured on surveillance video police released in an effort to drum up leads. He wore a gray sweatshirt, blue jeans and a black winter cap.

Information on the possible whereabouts of the first suspect of if he’d been identified or arrested wasn’t immediately available.

The Clark County Coroner’s Office will publicly identify the victim and release his cause and manner of death once his loved ones are notified.
