Police: Man tries to stab Henderson officer, gets shot

Henderson Police shot a man outside a sports bar Tuesday who allegedly tried to stab an officer trying to take him into custody after a disturbance call, officials said.

The suspect, who was stabilized at a hospital, was later identified as Israel Valle-Lopez, police said.

The 40-year-old was being booked on one felony count of assault on a protected person with a deadly weapon, police said.

Officers were dispatched about 6:30 a.m. to the bar in the 600 block of South Boulder Highway, near Major Avenue, police said.

The 911 caller said a man had been “pounding” on an establishment’s front door, police said. Officers encountered Valle-Lopez, who matched the description, in the business’s parking lot and gave him commands he ignored.

Valle-Lopez “continued aggressing officers and produced a knife after being pushed to the ground,” police said. The suspect was shot when he tried to stab one of the officers who tried to handcuff him.

No officers were injured. Further details were not provided.
