An 18-year-old man suspected of shooting an employee during an apparent robbery at a Henderson fast-food restaurant Wednesday night has died following a shootout with officers, Henderson Police said today.

The employee was shot shortly after 7 p.m. at the eatery in the 1200 block of West Warm Springs Road, Lt. Kirk Moore said.

The male employee, 35, was critically injured when he was struck in the chest but has since been stabilized at Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center, police said.

Police, responding to an emergency alarm, found the wounded employee in a walk-in freezer, police said.

Two officers later encountered a man matching the suspect’s description, Moore said.

The man, who was outside, had two guns, police said. “Officers contacted the male, who immediately began firing shots at officers, resulting in the use of deadly force,” police said.

The suspect was taken to Sunrise Hospital, where he later died, police said. He was suspected in a string of robberies in Henderson, police said.

The officers involved in the shooting were placed on routine paid administrative leave while the investigation continues.
