Best Bets: Atomic Saloon Show, Potted Potter, Fortress Invitational and more for your Las Vegas weekend

Atomic Saloon Show

Mihaela Bodlovic

Hit the Strip for “Atomic Saloon Show.”

This first weekend of 2020 is a bit of a slowdown on the Strip. That means it’s a tremendous time for locals to catch a fantastic new Vegas show they may have missed in 2019 before CES arrives next week and brings big crowds back to the Boulevard. Here are my picks, plus other fun music and sports options to choose from this weekend.

KENNY CETERA’S CHICAGO EXPERIENCE You don’t have to wait until February, when Chicago returns to the Strip at the Venetian, to get your dose of the band’s classic sounds. Former frontman Peter Cetera’s brother Kenny brings a hit-filled jam session to the Green Valley Ranch Grand Events Center Friday night. January 3, info at stationcasinoslive.com.

PAULA ABDUL “RuPaul’s Drag Race Live” and CeeLo Green’s new residency are coming soon to the Flamingo Showroom, but pop-dance queen Paula Abdul could easily return for additional performances of her high-energy residency “Forever Your Girl.” Friday and Saturday bring the only shows on Abdul’s Vegas schedule as it currently stands, so if you’re a fan, better get your tickets just to play it safe. January 3-4, info at caesars.com.

FORTRESS INVITATIONAL If the current Vegas Golden Knights home stand just isn’t enough hockey for you, get back to T-Mobile Arena Friday or Saturday for the Fortress Invitational, four games featuring college squads from Army West Point, Cornell, Ohio State and Providence. January 3-4, info at t-mobilearena.com.

POTTED POTTER This uproarious, family-friendly parody has been casting its spell on audiences at the Magic Attic at Bally’s Las Vegas for months now, speeding through “all seven Harry Potter books in 70 minutes.” Check out the weekend matinee options. January 3-5, info at caesars.com.

ATOMIC SALOON SHOW Spiegelworld’s bawdy take on the Wild West, filled with outrageous comedy and sexy acrobatics at the Grand Canal Shoppes, is the most buzzed-about new show of 2019 in Las Vegas. Don’t be the last person you know to go Atomic. January 3-5, info at spiegelworld.com.
