Henderson Police say they have made an arrest in a string of wallet thefts at area grocery stores.

Valerie Ray, 61, a transient, was arrested Jan. 10 on 43 counts of burglary, 53 counts of credit/debit card use without the owner’s consent, and 11 counts of possessing a credit/debit card without the owner’s consent, police said.

Ray, who was booked at the Henderson Detention Center, also faces 10 counts of abuse of an older or vulnerable person, police said.

Police had been investigating numerous thefts at grocery stores since March, according to a news release. Victims reported wallets missing from their purses as they went to pay for their groceries, police said.

Customers who put their purses in shopping carts were typically targeted when they turned their attention away from the carts, police said.
