Las Vegas Lights FC fans celebrate a goal during a game against the Tacoma Defiance at Cashman Field Saturday, April 13, 2019. The Lights shut out the Defiance 5-0.

The Las Vegas Lights will return to action in July after more than three months of inactivity because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The United Soccer League’s board voted Thursday to return for the 2020 season with a tentative start date of July 11.

Details about locations, scheduling and more were not released, but the Lights believe games will not have fans in attendance. The league also emphasized that any return-to-play scenarios will adhere to local governmental restrictions.

“Lights FC understand many more important steps are needed to ensure this can ultimately be done safely and prudently,” Lights owner Brett Lashbrook said. “We hope to have more details to share with our fans in the coming days and weeks ahead.”

The Lights played one game, a draw with San Diego Loyal SC on March 7. The league passed the season March 12 because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
