UNLV responded to the advancement of the coronavirus by announcing that all spring athletic events will be closed to the general public for the remainder of the season, effective immediately.

Hours after the NCAA announced that its men’s and women’s basketball championship tournaments would be played in empty arenas, UNLV and UNR released a joint statement announcing only “game-essential staff” would be allowed to attend spring sports.

The UNLV baseball team is set to embark on a seven-game road trip and won’t play at home again until March 27 against Fresno State. Other sports affected by the restriction include softball, golf, tennis and swimming.

UNLV football is set to begin spring practice at the end of March, and the annual spring game is scheduled for late April. The intrasquad scrimmage is usually open to fans, but a university spokesman said no decision had been made regarding the spring game, calling it a “fluid situation.”
