Gov. Steve Sisolak gets emotional during a Phase 1 reopening update news conference, Friday, May 15, 2020.

Old Glory and the Nevada flag will fly at half-staff through the weekend in honor of the 387 people who’ve lost their lives to the coronavirus statewide.

The executive order, signed by Gov. Steve Sisolak on Friday, is similar to others across the U.S., where the death toll is approaching 100,000.

“With this order,” Sisolak said in a statement about the half-staff flags at the state Capitol and federal buildings, “the state will stand in unison with all Americans in honoring the victims.”

“During these unprecedented times, we must take time over the long weekend to reflect on everything that has happened during this pandemic,” Sisolak said in the statement. “Now is the time to pay tribute to both those who lost their fight or are currently embroiled in the fight against this virus. Although our grief is vast, we will emerge together, stronger as a state.”

Clark County has been the hardest hit county in the state, where at least 322 people had perished as of Friday. A total of 5,815 people have been infected by COVID-19 here, leading to at least 1,513 hospitalizations.
