Salvation Army warns of scam to get personal information

The Salvation Army of Southern Nevada is warning of an impostor representative going to homes to collect personal information for a Christmas gift program.

“We don’t send representatives out to collect such information door to door, so whoever is doing this does not represent the Salvation Army,” a statement said.

The organization said it knows about two homes that have been targeted, including one where a victim provided Social Security numbers.

People who suspect they have been targeted should contact police, the Salvation Army said.

Those who want to sign up to receive help for Christmas gifts from the Salvation Army should visit salvationarmysouthernnevada.org and click on the “Christmas angel” box.
