1 person killed, 6 teens wounded in overnight shooting near park

A person was killed and six teens wounded in a shooting early today after a fight broke out near Sunset Park, according to Metro Police.

The shooting was reported about 12:15 a.m. in the 3100 block of Sunset Road, between Eastern Avenue and Pecos Road, police said.

After officers arrived, Metro and Henderson 911 dispatchers began getting calls from multiple hospitals reporting people dropping off gunshot victims, police said.

One victim was taken to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center, where they were pronounced dead, police said. Six others were being treated at hospitals in Las Vegas and Henderson, police said.

Detectives determined several people were loitering and drinking in a parking lot when a fight broke out, according to police.

The person who later died at Sunrise retrieve a handgun from their vehicle and began shooting into a crowd, injuring six older teens, police said.

An unidentified person then fired back and struck the shooter, police said. The Clark County Coroner’s Office will release the deceased person’s name.
