Police: Theft suspect stabbed in confrontation with store security guard

A theft suspect died in a stabbing Sunday after he pulled a knife on a store security guard, who then pulled his own knife, according to Henderson Police.

The incident happened about 5:40 p.m. at a business in the 1300 block of West Sunset Road, police said.

A man was seen concealing store merchandise on his person and leaving the store without paying, police said.

The 56-year-old security guard was attempting to retrieve the merchandise outside the store when the suspect brandished a knife, police said.

“The security officer then produced his own knife, which resulted in the theft suspect being stabbed,” police said in a statement.

The 34-year-old man was transported to a hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries, police said. His name was not released, pending notification of his family

This case is still under investigation to determine if any charges will be filed, police said.

No additional details were released.
