Boy, 2, hit by SUV, killed at Las Vegas park

A 2-year-old boy was hit by an SUV and killed Monday night at a Las Vegas park, according to Metro Police.

The incident was reported about 7:40 p.m. at Douglas A. Selby Park and Trailhead in the northeast valley, near Sandhill Road and Washington Avenue.

The SUV was leaving the park at the north entrance/exit ramp to Henry Drive when the boy ran into the path of the vehicle, police said.

The child was taken to University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, police said. His name was not released, pending notification of family members.

The driver, a 19-year-old Las Vegas woman, remained at the scene and was not impaired, police said. Excessive speed did not appear to be a factor, police said.

The incident remain under investigation, police said.

The death marked the 59th traffic-related fatality in Metro’s jurisdiction this year.
