State safety officials are investigating the death of a worker at McCarran International Airport in what authorities in Las Vegas termed a vehicle accident.

The identity of the dead person and the nature of the incident were not immediately disclosed Thursday.

Records showed that Clark County firefighter-paramedics were called a little after 9:30 p.m. Wednesday to what was described as a medical emergency.

The person who died was a ground services employee and the accident was being investigated by the state Occupational Safety and Health Administration, airport spokesman Joe Rajchel said. He said the worker was not a Clark County employee.

Ground services generally involve aircraft and terminal gates.

Rajchel declined to provide details or identify the type of vehicle involved.

Spokeswoman Teri Williams said the state Department of Business & Industry could provide no additional immediate details pending a preliminary report from OSHA investigators.
