For most of my life, I was a devoted Republican. I campaigned for Ronald Reagan, Richard Nixon and Bob Dole. I watched Bill Clinton in his first term and witnessed how genuine he was when being around people who had just suffered through a tragic event such as tornado. It made me start to think about which party “has my back.” Clinton and the Democrats easily won.
If not for Democrats, we probably would not have Social Security or Medicaid. This year, not one GOP senator voted to give millions of Americans much-needed stimulus checks that helped them through the pandemic crisis. Not one GOP senator supports President Joe Biden’s infrastructure bill, which is badly needed. Worst yet, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell has pledged to fight Biden on every bill he introduces.
Rather than support what helps their constituents, Republicans are intimidated into voting blindly for their party.
Again, it comes down to “who has your back” and who has the country’s back.
