The makeover of the UNLV basketball program took a significant step forward today.
Bryce Hamilton, who led the team in scoring at 17.9 points per game last season, is reportedly taking his name out of the NCAA transfer portal.
National college basketball reporter Jeff Goodman posted the news on Twitter.
First-year UNLV coach Kevin Kruger has populated his initial roster with many transfers from the portal, players who suited up last season for the likes of Texas, Oklahoma, Hawaii and West Virginia.
They’ll now be joined with one of the Mountain West’s top players in Hamilton.
The 6-foot-4 guard will be just the third holdover from last season — but, the most crucial. He went from averaging 4.3 points per game as a freshman in 2018-19, to scoring 16 points per game as a sophomore in 2019-20.
Goodman indicated that Hamilton is still exploring his NBA Draft options, although that seems unlikely because he’s not projected to be one of the 60 players selected.
