Police: Man accused of throwing girl off balcony said she was ‘full of bad spirits’

A Las Vegas man accused of throwing a 5-year-old girl off a third-story apartment balcony Sunday said the child was “full of bad spirits,” according to a Metro Police arrest report.

The girl suffered a fractured forearm, pelvis, leg and rib, as well as a collapsed lung and lacerated liver, police said.

She was in stable condition at Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center, police said.

The suspect, Jarick J. Willis, 32, was arrested on counts of attempted murder, child abuse and domestic battery, police said.

The incident was reported Sunday afternoon in the 4300 block of Boulder Highway.

Angela Matthews, the child’s mother, said she heard her son scream and saw her boyfriend, Willis, leaning over the balcony, according to the police report.

The son told Matthews that Willis had grabbed the girl by the hair, dragged her onto the balcony and threw her over, according to the report.

Matthews said she was in fear for her life when she grabbed a gun and fired several shots at Willis, according to the report.

Willis was transported to University Medical Center with unknown injuries.

An attorney for Willis was not listed on court records, and his bail was set at $150,000.
