LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

A clear example of hypocrisy

In overruling Roe v. Wade, Supreme Court Justices Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito signaled that same-sex marriage was on the court’s hit list.

On July 19, the House of Representatives passed the Respect For Marriage Act, which if signed into law would codify recognition of same-sex marriages under federal law and preempt judicial nullification of them.

Rep. Glenn Thompson, R-Pa., was one of 157 House Republicans who voted against the Respect For Marriage Act.

On July 22, Thompson and his wife attended their gay son’s wedding.

Thompson’s son told the press he had “married the love of (his) life.”

Thompson’s press secretary, Maddison Stone, confirmed that the congressman attended.

“Congressman and Mrs. Thompson were thrilled to attend and celebrate their son’s marriage on Friday night as he began this new chapter in his life,” Stone said in an email, adding that the Thompsons are “very happy” to welcome their new son-in-law “into their family.”

It’s good to see a happy family and supportive parents.

The dictionary definition of hypocrisy, though, is: “the practice of claiming to have moral standards or beliefs to which one’s own behavior does not conform.”

Thompson’s claimed beliefs compared with his actual behavior meet that definition.
