A construction worker was injured Thursday when a girder unexpectedly collapsed during demolition of a Las Vegas highway bridge, according to the Nevada Department of Transportation.

The contract worker, who suffered minor injuries, was treated at a hospital and released, officials said.

Demolition of the U.S. 95/I-515 bridge over Eastern Avenue continued this morning, officials said. The incident was not expected to delay work, and Eastern Avenue is still scheduled to reopen Wednesday evening as scheduled, officials said.

US 95/I-515 remains open and safe to drive on, officials said.

“Safety is NDOT’s top priority, and we are working with safety officials to ensure this incident is investigated thoroughly,” the agency said in a statement.
