LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

McDonald has many red flags

I read with interest the Jan. 20 article “Legal line crossed? Nevada GOP’s faux electors draw scrutiny,” regarding the Nevada Republican Party submitting a phony list of electors from Nevada in the 2020 presidential election.

Michael McDonald, chairman of the state Republican Party, was among the names on the list.

I’ve lived in Henderson for over 20 years and during those years, McDonald’s name has kept popping up in association with slippery activities associated with politics. McDonald was a member of the Las Vegas City Council for 10 years, beginning in 1995. During that period, he was implicated in an ethics investigation, a tax fraud inquiry and an FBI sting operation regarding cash kickbacks from a local strip club owner.

However, McDonald was not found guilty of any wrongdoing. Later, in 2013, he was accused of misconduct associated with a money-lending agreement and a local nonprofit organization. That too seems to have passed and he’s moved on.

Now we have him being part of a phony Republican “electors from Nevada” scam. It remains to be seen how that will end.

Perhaps it’s just me, but over the years, whenever I hear something about McDonald, a saying always comes to mind: “If it look like a duck, walks like a duck, and is always seen in the company of ducks, I tend to suspect it’s a duck.”
