LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

Court ignores public opinion

Three-quarters of American adults support regulating carbon dioxide as a pollutant.

There are a lot of things that shouldn’t have been politicized and demonized by the government, such as the climate crisis.

The Supreme Court’s ignorance and greed has been put on full display. There is no humanity in the decision of West Virginia v. Environmental Protection Agency, which limits the EPA’s authority to regulate climate pollution from power plants.

It not only subverts public will, it defies common sense. Stripping these protections harms everyday Americans’ health and safety, while benefiting coal companies and their allies who have captured the Supreme Court. Like always, big companies aren’t held accountable for their negative effects on everyday Americans, the environment they pollute and the resources they drain. It’s put on the backs of everyday Americans. There is no amount of carbon offsetting, tree planting and recycling that can reduce America’s CO2 footprint quickly enough like stopping this crisis at the source.

There are over 100 vacancies in the lower courts. We urgently need Sens. Catherine Cortez Masto and Jacky Rosen to fight with President Joe Biden and ensure all those vacancies are filled with pro-environment, pro-democracy, pro-choice judges by the end of this Congress. Through all the injustice put upon us by the Supreme Court, we must act quickly and bring balance back before it’s too late.
