An inmate who walked away from a Nevada Department of Corrections facility earlier this week has been recaptured, authorities said.
The NDOC Inspector General’s Office took 51-year-old Robert Munoz back into custody about 9 a.m. today, the department said. Munoz had not returned to Casa Grande Transitional Housing — a Las Vegas center for certain offenders within 18 months of parole eligibility — after an appointment at the DMV on Tuesday.
Additional charges are pending for Munoz, who is serving a sentence of 57 months to 12 years for three counts of grand larceny and one count of possession of a stolen vehicle, the corrections department said.
Munoz is at least the second inmate to have walked away from the Casa Grande Transitional Housing center this year, after 32-year-old offender Jeremiah Nichols drove away from a work detail in May.
Due to an “oversight” by the corrections department, a return warrant was not issued for Nichols and he was arrested and released twice before being taken back into permanent custody in October.
