LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

Trump destroying the GOP brand

In response to the Nov. 17 letter “GOP really won the midterms”:

The convincing victory by Sen.-elect John Fetterman in Pennsylvania rested in large part upon independents rejecting Donald Trump’s preferred candidate, Dr. Mehmet Oz. That victory, along with Democratic Senate wins in Arizona and Nevada, was a repudiation of Trumpism and denialism.

Furthermore, the Freedom Caucus is not the Republican Party. It is roughly 20% of Republican House members. Several are denialists, QAnon believers and/or “Investigate Hunter Biden” fanatics. No thanks. Where is the party’s health care plan? What is its plan to tamp down inflation? Is Ukraine support sustainable? Their answer: Impeach Joe Biden.

I am a split-ticket voter. I will never vote for a Trump Republican spewing unfounded election fraud gibberish. And I am not alone. Independents and nonpartisans outnumber Republicans in Nevada. Nationally, voters who identify as independents outnumber Republicans.

Not surprisingly, Fox News has moved away from the “Big Lie Guy” while backing less divisive candidates for the 2024 presidential campaign.

Bottom line: Republicans would have won “bigly” if Trump wasn’t around. His brand is toxic, contentious and drags the party down.

If Republicans don’t wise up, their continued fixation and funding of this loser will keep the party out of the White House.
