LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

Judge’s bias shows in ruling

U.S. District Court Judge Aileen Cannon exposed her lack of judicial experience, qualifications and impartiality when she justified deferential treatment for Donald Trump. So much for the equal application of law.

More alarming, though, is her stated belief that the FBI and Justice Department may not be honest about sensitive documents’ classification. She also said Justice’s reasons for urgency regarding national security were overstated.

This is far from clear-eyed judicial thinking. It is a dive into the deep state conspiracy. In her public and written decisions, Cannon implicitly accuses the FBI and Justice of being dishonest in order to undermine Trump.

Appellate courts can and should correct the bad decisions made by lower courts. Reversals of one’s decisions by higher courts should serve to school the judge in question. When and if the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals weighs in on Cannon’s convoluted rationale, it should also sharply rebuke her for bringing Q-Anon into the courtroom.
