Snow fell today in parts of the Las Vegas Valley, with reports of accumulations on roofs, yards and roads in the Henderson area, according to the National Weather Service.

A band of precipitation developed over the east and southeast parts of the valley this morning, with reports of large snowflakes piling up in the southern foothills near Black Mountain, officials said.

Snowfall accumulations of 1 to 2 inches were reported above 2,500 feet in neighborhoods such as Paradise Hills, Mission Hills and Anthem, weather service meteorologist John Adair said. The snow started falling between 7 and 8 a.m. and ended by about noon, he said.

Most of the accumulation was on lawns and landscaping, with a light coating on some streets, Adair said.

Rain fell elsewhere around the valley, with the heaviest rainfall in Henderson, where some areas got up to three-quarters of an inch, Adair said. Most other places saw less than one-tenth of an inch, he said.

Mount Charleston, meanwhile, got 3 to 5 inches of snow at 7,000 feet and above, Adair said.

Showers around the valley should diminish through the afternoon today, becoming mostly clear by midnight, he said.

Overnight lows should be around freezing in most of the valley, dipping to the upper 20s further west in the Summerlin area, Adair said. Tuesday’s high is forecast for about 49 degrees, with gusty winds.
