Various plates of food are selected to be served at Greenspun Middle School cafeteria during school lunch period Thursday, Dec. 19, 2013.

Children who rely on free meals at school will continue to get fed this summer through the Clark County School District, Three Square Food Bank and other community partners.

Though the federally funded Summer Food Service Program, kids 18 and younger can get breakfast, lunch and snacks, no questions asked, on a first-come, first-served basis at schools, parks and recreation centers, Boys & Girls Clubs, libraries, day camps and select apartment complexes. Meals are being distributed throughout Clark County.

Three Square, Southern Nevada’s largest hunger relief organization, says it plans to pack about 20,000 meals a week this summer for its “Meet Up and Eat Up” program.

“Summer vacation is meant for kids to relax and have fun, but instead, countless kids in our community are left worrying about where their next meal will come from once the school year ends,” said Lisa Segler, chief strategy officer of Three Square, in a statement. “Our mission at Three Square is to ensure that kids in food insecure households have convenient, year-round access to nutritious meals, and with the help of our community partners, we are making that happen.”

Days, times and menus may vary. To find a meal distribution site, check nvsummermeals.com, text “Summer Meals” to 914-342-7744 or call 1-866-348-6479

Children do not need to be enrolled in summer school to get food.
