Man sentenced in tax fraud case

A Las Vegas man who created and filed false income tax returns on behalf of himself and others was sentenced today to 27 months in federal prison, the local U.S. District Attorney just announced.

Keith Carthon, 27, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge James C. Mahan today, three months after pleading guilty.

In March 2007, Carthon and co-defendant Ramona Brock were charged with providing people with fictitious W-2 forms. Those people then submitted the false forms and tax returns to the Internal Revenue Service in order to receive tax refunds to which they were not entitled, according to a U.S. District Attorney’s news release.

Brock is scheduled to be tried in Mahan’s courtroom on Feb. 25.
