Lake Mead Marina fire causes $1 million damages

A fire that started about 6:30 a.m. today destroyed three boats, damaged two others and caused an estimated $1 million in damages, the National Park Service said.

Park service investigators confirmed that the owner of the boat where they believe the fire started was not on the vessel. At this time, investigators believe no one was injured. The Lake Mead Marina has 1,350 slips.

A small finger section of one of the docks of the Lake Mead Marina caught fire. This marina was moved in February from Boulder Harbor to its new location next to the Las Vegas Boat Harbor Marina. The fire was isolated by he Spyglass portion of the B-Dock by Las Vegas Boat Harbor Marina employees.

The exact cause of the fire is unknown at this time, Park Service spokeswoman Roxanne Dey said.

The marinas remain open for business, including boat rentals, a store, fuel dock, restaurant, meeting area and courtesy docks.

The public boat launch ramp next to the marina, Hemenway Harbor Launch ramp is open to the public.
