Others interested in Porter race if Titus doesn’t run

State Sen. Dina Titus is playing it coy right now as to whether she will step in to run against Rep. Jon Porter in the 3rd Congressional District race.

But other Democrats are watching and willing to get into it if Titus stays on the sidelines as the party scrambles to find a replacement for Robert Daskas, who cited "family considerations" in dropping out of the race Monday.

State Sen. Maggie Carlton, D-Las Vegas, confirmed that she had been "very interested" in running a little over a year ago.

"When they discovered Mr. Daskas, the choice had been made," she said.

She said she would consider running -- "I’m going to keep an open mind" -- but would not run if Titus does.

"It's the same reason I didn't throw my hat in the ring with Daskas in it," Carlton said. "With a race like this, you have to be focused on the general and can't have a primary challenge."
