Berkley, Titus fight the Las Vegas bashers

WASHINGTON -- Democratic Rep. Shelley Berkley’s impassioned defense of her hometown news in Politico today about tourist-town lawmakers pushing back against the demonizing of corporate travel to places like Las Vegas.

Berkley calls herself a “walking Chamber of Commerce” while fellow Democratic Rep. Dina Titus is quoted promoting the sensible side of Sin City where rooms can be had for $100 a night.

Berkley has been aggressively swatting back attacks on Las Vegas after the city emerged as a symbol of corporate excess in the economic downturn.

The paper notes the efforts may be paying off:

“Berkley won’t mention names, but she said she’s heard from ‘a number of my colleagues’ who told her they’ll be visiting Las Vegas during the break.’”
