Death sentence upheld in 1985 Las Vegas slaying

(via The Associated Press) · July 24, 2008 · 3:59 PM

The death sentence for a man convicted in the stabbing death of a Las Vegas jewelry store owner during a 1985 robbery was upheld Thursday by the Nevada Supreme Court.

The high court ruled against Paul Browning, convicted of killing Hugo Elsen by stabbing him in the heart. Prosecutors argued that Browning went into Elsen's shop because he needed money to bail his girlfriend, a prostitute, out of jail.
