WSOP celebrates 40th anniversary

The 40th annual event kicked off today with Event 1, Casino Employees No-Limit Hold'em. But one of the early events that looks to be a hit is the opening-weekend "stimulus special," a $1,000 buy-in No-Limit Hold'em event.

"The prize pool for this one should exceed $5 million, and the winner is likely looking at a $1 million prize," said Seth Palansky, Harrah's Entertainment Sports and Entertainment Group director of communications. "Where else can you turn a $1,000 investment into a million bucks in three to four days except at the World Series of Poker."

But with 56 other events, there should be no shortage of action.

Poker Listings also takes a trip down memory lane to look at monumental events that have occurred during the WSOP's 40-year-run.
