Former Rebel Kendall Smith finds early success with Cal-State Northridge

Cal-State Northridge junior guard Kendall Smith, a transfer from UNLV, was named the Big West Player of the Week. In the process, he took a jab at his former program.

Smith averaged 17.5 points per game in victories over Portland State and Bethesda University, playing in his first games for Cal-State Northridge after leaving the UNLV program last December. He seems happy in his new home, where his coach is former Rebel Reggie Theus. Theus, of course, was in the running five years ago to be the UNLV coach before the job went to Dave Rice.

"It's a great experience to be in a program where coach really emphasizes our development and teaching us how to play the game of basketball," Smith said.
