Mountain West Conference Commissioner Craig Thompson told the media during a conference call Monday that it's probable that the conference will vacate its spot in the Royal Purple Las Vegas Bowl, opening the way for BYU to play in the bowl game.

"I don't know exactly what's going to happen with Las Vegas," Thompson said while talking about the conference's bowl situation with the Idaho Statesman's Chadd Cripe. "I would say, without giving out any inside information here on a Monday, that we will probably vacate Las Vegas this year."

This year's Vegas Bowl, set for Dec. 19, will pit either BYU or a Mountain West team against an opponent from the Pac-12. The Cougars will play in either the Vegas Bowl or in the Hawaii Bowl on Dec. 24 against an American Athletic Conference opponent.
