UNLV coach Dave Rice calls a play against Fresno State during the Mountain West opener at the Thomas & Mack Center on Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2015.

Dave Rice spent nearly two decades in Las Vegas and he’s not forgetting those years just because he’s landed at UNR on Eric Musselman’s basketball staff. But he’s also focused on the future and his next chapter, which will not unfold in UNLV red but rather rival Wolf Pack blue, a move that sent shock waves through the Silver State.

Chris Murray of the Reno Gazette-Journal profiled Rice this week, detailing the process of the former Rebels' coach landing in Reno and the appreciation he still has for his time at UNLV. There is a mini-statue of Jerry Tarkanian in his UNR office, and two UNLV game balls.

“We were selective. I had some other opportunities but I have so much respect for Eric Musselman and his talent as a coach and the program he’s building," Rice told Murray. "I felt really good when I came up here for a visit a few weeks ago and when I met with the administration and I knew the tradition here, I knew this was the right decision for me.”
