Gerard Gallant says he was disappointed and surprised to be fired as the Golden Knights coach this week.
In an interview with the Journal Pioneer, the newspaper in Gallant’s Canadian hometown of Summerside, Prince Edward Island, he conceded that “I understand the hockey business and things have to change sometimes. They made a tough decision and I’m sure it was tough on them, but that’s the way hockey is.”
Gallant was the first coach in franchise history, leading Vegas to the Stanley Cup Final in its maiden season of 2017-18.
