No invitation needed: Training group hosting 2-day football combine

High school football prospects spend the spring going to various testing combines with hopes of catching the eye of college recruiters.

They strive to run a fast 40-yard dash, or shine in one-on-one competitions against players getting more recruiting attention. Basically, anything to get noticed by scouts with dreams of landing a scholarship.

But what happens to players who don’t get invited? Camps are hosted by scouting services such as Rivals and Scout, and often are invitation-only. Under-the-radar players, or those who might be undersized, often are excluded.

Phase 1 Sports, a Las Vegas training facility that helps athletes get recruited, will host its annual combine April 11-12. For $75, non-senior high school players will be tested in the vertical jump, 40-yard dash, 20-yard shuttle, and weight-lifting reps. Scores and measurements will be documented on recruiting profiles.

There will also be one-on-one competition between wide receivers and defensive backs, offensive and defensive linemen, and running backs and linebackers. It will follow a similar script as the invitation events nationally.

From 1 p.m. to 5 on April 11 prospects will measured and tested at Phase 1 Sports on 5137 W. Oquendo Road. There will also seminars on recruiting educations, nutrition and training. The event continues from 1 p.m. to 5 April 12 at Faith Lutheran with one-on-one competition, skills training and 7-on-7 scrimmages.

Visit Phase 1 Sports' website for details.
