Henderson adds another park

Henderson has a new park that will be opening this Saturday. The public is invited to the grand opening of Madeira Canyon Park tomorrow, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 2390 Democracy Drive.

The grand opening events are free.

Besides regular features of a Henderson park, such as basketball and tennis courts, this park also features a “splash pad.” Splash pads are a great way for you and your kids to cool down without having the worries that come with the traditional swimming pool. Recently I took my son to the Mission Hills Park to play on their large version of a splash pad. I liked how he could run around and get wet and I had the freedom to sit and talk with my friends.

It’s also free to play in the splash pads.

Madeira Canyon Park was built by Pulte Homes and is called a “turn-key” park. Whenever a development goes in, a park must be built for the residents by the builder, and then turned over to the City of Henderson Parks and Recreation Department for use and continued maintenance.

Dominick Casey, assistant director of the Parks and Recreation Department says, that because of this program, “the City of Henderson has added more than a dozen such parks to our inventory over the last decade.”

Henderson has great parks and each park has its own unique features. I can’t wait to check out Madeira Canyon Park and see if it will be added to my “favorites” list of parks I frequent in Henderson.
