Today’s Monday By the Numbers column is top-heavy with a little off the top as we push for support of the annual St. Baldrick’s Day events set for Saturday across the valley. The events are to raise money and awareness for the battle against childhood cancer.

Head-shaving events this year are scheduled for McMullan’s Irish Pub, New York-New York’s Brooklyn Bridge and Nine Fine Irishmen, Ri Ra Irish Pub at Mandalay Place and Vinyl in the Hard Rock Hotel.

McMullan’s Irish Pub owners Brian and Lynn McMullan, who in 1997 lost their 2-year-old daughter, Kyra, to a brain tumor, launched the Las Vegas branch of the national fundraising effort in 2007.

Once more I will be a shavee, this being the third consecutive year, at Brooklyn Bridge. The shaver will be my little friend Elann Saula, who just turned 4 on Feb. 17 and is fighting a series of immune-system disorders.

Elann is being treated at Children’s Specialty Center of Nevada, the only nonprofit pediatric cancer outpatient treatment facility in Nevada. The center is funded in large part by money raised during the annual St. Baldrick’s Day fundraiser.

Also at New York-New York, where shaving starts at 10 a.m., are celeb shavers Olivia Newton-John and members of the casts of Chippendales, “Million Dollar Quartet,” “Rock of Ages,” “Tournament of Kings” and “Absinthe.”

Carrot Top also is showing up — as a shaver. Don’t get excited. That orange mane is not going anywhere, although I do wonder if there is a number that would get him to reconsider …

Also, in a happening that is not officially connected to St. Baldrick’s Day but is a means to raise funds, we’re hosting a birthday event (mine) Thursday at 10:30 p.m. at Rose. Rabbit. Lie. in the Cosmopolitan. No presents allowed, as I want for nothing (though I could use an area rug); donate to St. Baldrick’s by clicking to StBaldricks.org.

The night is hosted by RRL resident entertainer extraordinaire Skye Dee Miles and will feature a lineup of performers, the names being held as a surprise. This is to be a no-cover hang of a lot of great folks around the scene in VegasVille, with donations taken at — where, kids? — StBaldricks.org. That is where you can find info about how to be a shavee and how to donate.

Let’s get to the stats:

$380,000: The amount raised from McMullan’s St. Baldrick’s shave-a-thon in 2014.

$112,000: The amount raised at Brooklyn Bridge in 2014.

$500,000: The target goal of this year’s campaign, which was surpassed last year.

$83,506.56: The amount raised by the top team of 2014, Cirque du SoBald.

$47,500: The amount of donations generated this year, so far, by the top team Bald By Design.

$235,000: The amount donated last fall by St. Baldrick’s to Cure 4 the Kids Foundation, the fundraising arm of Child Specialty Center of Nevada.

$28,000: Amount donated, thus far, from the Cure 4 the Kids Foundation shave-a-thon Feb. 22 at L’Oracle fitness center.

10,000: The number of patients treated by Children’s Specialty Center of Nevada since the facility opened in 2007.

$8.5 million: The amount Cure 4 The Kids Foundation has provided to those families who could otherwise not afford that care.

$3.5 million: Amount raised through St. Baldrick’s Day events in Las Vegas since the first at McMullan’s in 2007.

2: Number of months, approximately, it takes for your hair to grow back after being shaved at a St. Baldrick’s event.
