‘Run Away With Cirque du Soleil’ 5K

This week, Monday By the Numbers focuses on the 15th annual “Run Away With Cirque du Soleil” 5K Run and 1-Mile Fun Walk set for March 12 at Springs Preserve.

The deets: Onsite registration opens at 7 a.m. followed by pre-race activities at 8. The run starts at 8:30, followed by music and awards ceremony at 10:30.

Registration fees are $37 for the 5K Run and $27 for the 1-Mile Fun Walk, with prices increasing by $3 after March 1. Register now at Active.com (search “Running/5K” to get there).

Las Vegas Mayor Carolyn Goodman and KNPR head Flo Rogers will help celebrate the milestone anniversary, and I’ll try to be on hand to perform my usual goading and chiding of the participants.

7,655: Runners who have taken part in the Cirque fun run over the past 14 years.

2,973: Walkers who have participated.

2,013: Seating capacity of the “Beatles Love” theater at the Mirage.

925: Volunteers who have taken part in the run.

140: Artists in costume who have attended.

1,465: Cirque employees who have participated.

$398,000: Money raised to assist Las Vegas area nonprofits who focus on at-risk youth.

8: Years the run has been opened by a Mayor Goodman (Oscar, then Carolyn) at Springs Preserve.

8: Years since the Cirque show “Believe” opened at Luxor.

8,527: Cups of Starbucks coffee served to attendees in 14 years.

2,350: Post-run massages given.

5,378: Faces painted in the 14-year history of the event.
