Man drowns at Lake Mead

A 45-year-old man, Ronaldo Datangel, drowned near the Hemenway Fishing Pier at Lake Mead on Sunday, authorities reported today.

Datangel was trying to recover a boogey board that had floated away from shore, the National Park Service said. He was not wearing a life jacket.

Friends and family members noticed Datangel went under water and pulled him from the lake. They initiated CPR immediately, the park service said.

At this time, rangers do not believe alcohol or drugs were a factor in his death. The Clark County coroner will determine the cause of death.

This is the third drowning at Lake Mead National Recreation Area this year.
