Cool weather, showers open Memorial Day weekend; chance of showers throughout weekend

Unseasonably cold air brought showers and isolated thunderstorms into the Las Vegas Valley today, the National Weather Service said.

Before noon a couple rain gauges in the northwest valley reported 0.04 and 0.08 of an inch of rain.

A chance of showers and thunderstorms will continue in Las Vegas each day of Memorial Day weekend, forecasters said.

In addition to clouds and showers, much cooler temperatures are expected, with highs in the 70s and 80s and lows in the 50s and 60s. Average highs for this time of year are in the low 90s.

By mid-week temperatures will warm up to normal and skies will clear, the weather service said.
