The totals in the race for mayor are 7,286 people voting early and 4,041 by mail. So only 3 percent of city residents have gone to the polls while only 2 percent have responded to absentee ballot campaigns.
For those wondering if V for Victor Chaltiel is making any headway in getting Republicans out to vote, they make up just under 40 percent of the total.
Extrapolation: Still say at least 12 percent vote early or by mail, especially with mobile sites moving to oldster bastions, so that means overall turnout could come close to 50,000 voters. I still think it will be slightly less.
But let's have fun with numbers: If the turnout is 50,000, let's be conservative and say Carolyn Goodman gets 30 percent. That's 15,000 votes. I don't think anyone else will get to 10,000 votes, or 20 percent.
But let's do the miracle scenario for Chaltiel for the fun of it: If 20,000 Republicans (40 percent) turn out, he would only need to get half of them to get into the general.
C'est possible?
