The new phone books arrived the other day.
They come to the pad so frequently, it seems, that two or three pile up before I notice, then they wind up in a corner of the garage.
But this one is different. It is thick with yellow pages, but it has a green cover. EMBARQ is at the top left, and it says it’s published by DEX.
UNLV basketball coach Lon Kruger, cutting down the nets after the Rebels won the Mountain West Conference tournament title in March, occupies the left half of the cover.
Huh?
If he’s not at some charity event or golf tournament or a UNLV minor-sports game, which he usually attends with wife Barb, Kruger is elsewhere in town, promoting his team or the university.
And now he’s on the phone book, atop a ladder with a big smile, scissors in his right hand and a net in his left!
Fans of the Rebels can’t get enough of their team lately. They will no doubt be pleased, then, the next time they let their fingers do the walking for the number of that pizza joint around the corner.
