51s score twice in the eighth to beat New Orleans

Randy Ruiz’s two-run single in the eighth inning Wednesday night lifted the Las Vegas 51s to a 3-1 victory against the New Orleans Zephyrs at Cashman Field.

The ball was blooped up into shallow right field, and fell behind Zephyrs second baseman Manny Mayorson, who was backtracking on the play. The hit came with two outs in the inning.

Kyle Phillips walked and Angel Sanchez doubled to start the rally and scored when Ruiz singled to right field. Ruiz has a team-best 39 RBIs.

Jeremy Accardo gave up two hits in the ninth inning before recording his sixth save of the season. Brian Burres started for the 51s and allowed just one run off of four hits in seven innings, striking out a season-high nine batters. In the process, he ran a scoreless innings pitched streak to 12 before giving up his lone run in the seventh.

The win snapped a two-game losing streak against New Orleans. The four-game series finale is at 7:05 p.m. Thursday.
