Vegas Play of the Day: Miami Marlins at Washington Nationals

Here’s the latest installment of the Play of the Day, which uses odds from the South Point..

Our three sports writers started with a $10,000 bankroll — fictional, of course.

Miami Marlins plus-200 at Washington Nationals: $200 to win $400

For the sake of my fantasy baseball team, I certainly hope that Stephen Strasburg has a productive season. But through two starts it’s been a mess — 6.1 ERA and 1.74 WHIP in 10.1 innings — and because of that I’ll take a flyer on the Marlins figuring him out tonight.

Although the Marlins are only 5-4, they’ve scored the fourth most runs in baseball. Last night, they scored seven against the Nationals, which would have meant more had Miami not also allowed 10 runs.

That’s likely going to be a problem for Miami throughout the year as it tries to overcome its own pitching staff — tonight’s starter is Tom Koehler (3 ERA, 1.33 WHIP). But for one game with inflated odds, because the ace they’re facing hasn’t been an ace yet this season, I like the Marlins.
