Here’s the latest installment of the Play of the Day, which uses odds from the South Point.. Our three sports writers started with a $10,000 bankroll — fictional, of course.
Washington (-120) at Atlanta: $480 to win $400: Washington starter Gio Gonzalez has been one of the best pitchers in baseball during the first two weeks of the season, winning both his starts with an impressive 0.75 earned run average. He’s struck out 11 batters and walked three.
Despite some top-end talent in the Atlanta lineup, the Braves have been one of baseball’s worst offensive teams. They are 27th in runs scored and on-base percentage, and 23rd in batting average.
Atlanta starter Aaron Harang has been a pleasant surprise in his two starts of 2014 in posting a 0.71 earned run average. But his career ERA is 4.26, and it’s only a matter of time before he shows his true colors. My bet is Washington will get to Harang early and often.
Standings: Bern (18-14, $10,060), Keefer (15-17, $8,777), Brewer (12-17-3, $6,680)
