Vegas Play of the Day: Rockies at Tigers

Here’s the latest installment of the Play of the Day, which uses odds from the South Point. Our three sports writers started with a $10,000 bankroll — fictional, of course.

Detroit Tigers (-1.5, -110) vs. Colorado Rockies: $550 to win $500 It’s rarely a good idea to bet a team on the run line in baseball. With a 162 game season, wins are tough to come by — let alone wins by two or more runs. But, with that said, I love the Tigers today.

Colorado will be without the injured Troy Tulowitzki and Carlos Gonzalez, making it impossible to score against Detroit starter Rick Porcello. Porcello has a 12-5 record with a respectable 3.24 earned run average. He’s given up just four earned runs in his last three starts.

Colorado starter Tyler Matzek has had flashes of good play in his short career, but eventually the Tigers’ bats — they are fifth in baseball in runs scored — will produce against the starter with a 4.39 earned run average.

Standings: Bern (41-28-1, $14,234), Keefer (32-37, $8,942), Brewer (28-38-3, $3,515)
